Springfield Armory's Hellcat OSP is a modern semi-automatic 9mm with a 3-inch barrel, and the OSP designation means the slide is cut for a micro red dot. This used example, serial BA459171, is in great condition and comes with the factory box, a soft case and two magazines, so nothing needs to be bought before the first range trip.

Three inches of barrel makes it a concealed-carry size pistol, which is how most North Carolina owners will use it, and the optics cut lets you add a dot later without machining. Buying a handgun in the state takes a photo ID, Form 4473 and a NICS check at the dealer; a valid North Carolina concealed handgun permit can be used in place of the check, and the state keeps no firearm registry. The second magazine and soft case are a useful start for practice.
